Who is a Hirsch kid?

The Hirsch Academy serves children with a wide range of neurological and developmental challenges, including ADHD, NVLD, Sensory Processing Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome, Regulatory Disorders and Learning Disorders.

Because of the difficulty regulating their bodies and their emotions, these children have been unsuccessful in school despite their strong cognitive abilities.  Many previously had negative school experiences in which their neurological or developmental struggles were seen as misbehavior, and were addressed with heavy punishments that resulted in additional problems.  Some of the Hirsch kids have specific learning disabilities in addition to difficulties with regulation.
